What to expect on race day

    Parking: (post code: HG4 3PL)

In an attempt to avoid congestion in the village and along Skelding/Drift lane (whilst maintaining access for emergency vehicles, farm vehicles, and local residents), parking will be strictly limited to the car parking field on Skelding/Drift Lane, behind the village (post code: HG4 3PL).

Please do not park in the centre of the village, nor on Skelding/Drift Lane itself, unless instructed to do so by one of the parking marshals.

Skelding/Drift lane will only be used as overflow parking if the car parking field is full, or in extreme wet weather conditions.

Parking marshals will be available on race day to provide further instruction.

You can arrive in the car park area from 9.00am on race day.

    Race Registration:

Registration will be open from 9am until 10.45am in the village hall, which is in the centre of the village.

The start area of the race is on the road next to the community park.

    Group Warm up session:

A group warm up session will be provided by Set The Tone Fitness, from 10.50am in the community Park. This is entirely optional, but is a fun way to get the blood pumping around those muscles before you set off! Come and join in!

    Facilities:

    • Toilets: There will be portaloos in the parking field and near to the race start. There are also several more toilets available in the village hall, in the centre of the village.
    • Changing facilities: There is room in the toilets within the village hall for changing, if required.
    • Bag Drop: Bags can be left in the village hall at your own risk.

    Food & Drink:

There will be a pop-up café in the village hall, selling tea, coffee, squash, cakes and ice cream (CASH ONLY).

The village of Grantley has a pub, which takes pre-bookings for lunch only. There are a few other cafes and pubs in the immediate local area, including G&Ts ice cream parlour and café, and The Sawley Arms.

Don’t forget that your goody bag will also contain a bottle of Harrogate’s finest spring water, one of Yorkshire’s Finest Pork Pies/vegan sausage rolls, a Yorkshire Banana (?), and a chocolate bar. You will also get a Yorkshire tea bag that you can use to make a proper brew of Yorkshire’s golden nectar when you get home!

    Prize Giving Ceremony:

We wait until the last runner has returned before we do the prize giving ceremony, which takes place in the finishing field at the school. We expect this to start at 12.30pm and should be finished before 1pm. Please stay to encourage your friends across the line, enjoy the tasty treats in your goody bags, get yourself a drink/cake/ice cream from the village hall, and bask in your reflective glory after all of your effort!

Prizes are awarded to the 1st-3rd male and female runners in each age category: Overall, V40, V50 and V60.

There is also an award for the 1st male team and 1st female team (first 5 men and women from any given club/team).

Spot prizes are given to runners as they cross the line, on the whim of the Race Director and/or a nominated band of school children!

    Raffle & Tombola:

There will be an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets (CASH ONLY) at race registration or from the pop-up café in the village hall, where there will also be a kid’s tombola. Both are in aid of Fountains and Grewelthorpe Primary schools. The raffle will be draw on Monday 16th May.

    Code of Conduct for Runners

Help us to keep everyone safe

    1. Currently it is not known what impact Covid-19 will have on the long-term health of those who contracted the virus. Based on the best available evidence at this time it is strongly advised that those who were hospitalised due to Covid-19 should undergo a form of health screening by a medical professional prior to taking part in the event. This health screening should preferably be undertaken by a doctor with specialist training in sports medicine, or those who feel they are competent to make a decision about the participant’s fitness to compete and arrange any further investigations that may be required.
    2. Runners must not attend the event if they have been unwell or suffering from any Covid-19 symptoms in the last 5-days. Please see current NHS guidance at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-Covid-19/
    3. The event has been carefully planned with appropriate medical provision to try to minimise the impact the event may have on local NHS services. As a runner attending the event, you can also help with this by ensuring that you have trained appropriately for the event, and by ensuring that you are fit enough and well enough to complete the race.
    4. Please be mindful of your personal hygiene practices, and avoid spitting and nasal clearance whilst on the course and at the venue.
    5. The race starts in the centre of the village, and ends on the primary school field; we therefore urge all runners to ensure that they make use of the toilet facilities provided. Wild wees are strictly forbidden!
    6. In an effort to reduce the environmental impact of the event, we ask that all runners take their plastic water bottles home with them to recycle in their home recycling.
    7. Please be advised that runners are not permitted to wear head phones (or similar devices) whilst on the course, according to the UKA Rules of Competition (2016).

  • FAQ

The answers to all of your Frequently Asked Questions

    (updated 04/05/22)

    Where is the race?

The race is held in and around the picturesque village of Grantley, near Ripon, in the heart of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty!

    The postcode is HG4 3PJ.

    Are spectators allowed?

    Yes!

What catering facilities will there be on the day?

There will be a pop-up cafe in the village hall serving teas, coffees, cakes and ice creams on the day.

Don’t forget that your goody bag will also contain a bottle of Harrogate’s finest spring water, one of Yorkshire’s Finest Pork Pies, a Yorkshire Banana (?), and a chocolate bar. You will also get a Yorkshire tea bag that you can use to make a proper brew of Yorkshire’s golden nectar when you get home!

Will I need any money on race day?

The school and local church committees will be serving teas, coffees, cakes, and ice creams from the village hall, so if you want to pick up a celebratory ice cream, cake or take away coffee on your way back to your car, make sure you’ve slipped a couple of quid into your running shorts before you set off!

We don't have a contactless card reader, so cash only please!

Is there a time limit on the race?

Because we wait until the last person has finished before starting the prize giving ceremony, we have placed a 90-minute time limit on completing the course, and therefore respectfully request that walkers do not enter the event.

Is there a vegan alternative to the pork pie in the goody bag?

Be Prepared to be AMAZED when you taste their incredible vegan traditional sausage rolls! A real taste of Yorkshire's finest produce for you all to take home with you (or eat immediately!!).

Can I buy a ticket for your amazing raffle?
