  • COVID safety measures

Our main priority is to keep all runners, volunteers, and local residents safe during our event, so that a good time can be had by all! This year, that means that certain safety measures must be implemented to reduce the risk of viral transmission during the ongoing pandemic.

All Covid safety measures have been implemented in line with advice from Run Britain and UK Athletics

    Before the Race

We urge all runners to carefully consider the following points before attending the race:

    1. Currently it is not known what impact Covid-19 will have on the long term health of those who contracted the virus. Based on the best available evidence at this time it is strongly advised that anyone who was hospitalised due to Covid-19 should undergo a form of health screening by a medical professional prior to taking part in the event. This health screening should preferably be undertaken by a doctor with specialist training in sports medicine, or those who feel they are competent to make a decision about the participant’s fitness to compete and arrange any further investigations that may be required.
    2. Runners MUST NOT attend the event if they (or anyone they live with) have been unwell or suffering from any Covid-19 symptoms in the last 14-days. Please see current NHS guidance at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-Covid-19/ .
    3. The event has been carefully planned with appropriate medical provision to try to minimise the impact the event may have on local NHS services. As a runner attending the event, you can also help with this by ensuring that you have trained appropriately for the event, and by ensuring that you are fit enough and well enough to complete the race.

    Code of Conduct for Runners

We will make sure we do our bit to keep everyone safe, but we need your help too! It is the individual responsibility of every runner to ensure that they follow the code of conduct expected by all runners. This states that all runners must:

    1. Adhere to current government guidance on travel, and avoid travelling to the event with people who aren’t in your social bubble, and avoid using public transport if possible.
    2. Scan the QR code for the NHS Test & Trace App on arrival at the venue – these will be clearly displayed around the site.
    3. Wear face coverings before and after entering the field of competition
    4. Observe social distancing wherever possible – this includes before the race when in the holding area, and after the race when you make your way out of the finish area and back to your vehicle. Whilst on the course, reasonable attempts must be made to maintain social distance wherever possible.
    5. Regularly sanitise your hands, especially before and after contact with any touch points such as door handles.
    6. Please arrive at the venue “ready to run”, as there will be no changing facilities on site.
    7. Please come to the event alone – current government guidance states that spectators are not currently allowed to attend.
    8. Please be mindful of your personal hygiene practices, and avoid spitting and nasal clearance whilst on the course and at the venue.
    9. If you experience COVID-19 symptoms soon after the event, then please make this known through the government’s test and trace system.

What will race day look like?

The race will have to take a different format this year, as I'm sure you will all understand. This section outlines some of the changes to the usual race format, to help you all know what to expect when you arrive on race day.

    • There will be no race registration on race day. All race packs will be sent out prior to the event, and your timing chip will be embedded on your race number. This is in an attempt to reduce areas of congregation.
    • We are sorry to say that this year there is a strict NO SPECTATORS rule. Whilst we are aware that this may affect the overall ambience of the race, we will make extra efforts to cheer all the louder for you all ourselves both along the course and at the finish line!!
    • There will be NO WATER STOP at the half-way point along the course this year, so if you think you will need water along the route, then please ensure you bring some with you. You will still get your bottle of water as part of your goody bag at the end of the race however.
    • There will be NO CHANGING FACILITIES OR BAG DROP this year, although the village hall will be open for toilet facilities (Face masks must be worn).
    • There will be NO CATERING FACILITIES on site this year, in an attempt to reduce unnecessary congregation of people. Your goody bag will still contain essential post-run nutrition in the form of a banana and pork pie however! And you will still get a bottle of water as you cross the finish line!
    • Unfortunately, we have had to make the decision to CANCEL THE FUN RUN this year, to try to reduce the risk of social mixing, and so that we can move the start of the race to the community park area to allow better social distancing in the pre-race holding area.
    • The pre-race holding area will be divided into sections based on predicted time, which will allow us send groups of runners off on the course together via an extended start protocol, and reduce the amount of mixing that could occur throughout the course, as well as at the finish. When you arrive at the pre-race holding area, please go to the marked area that best represents your predicted race time, whilst ensuring you maintain social distancing from other competitors.
    • We ask all runners to avoid congregating in the pre-race holding area before 10.30am, to try to minimise the amount of time runners are being held together in relatively close proximity. Social distancing should be maintained at all times.
    • Runners will be “released” over the start line in small groups, with the fastest runners setting off first. The entire “start protocol” in expected to take no longer than approximately 10-minutes.
    • We are sad to say that there will be NO PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY this year! We will try to give the 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall male and female runners their prizes as they cross the finish line, but we will have to send the 1st/2nd/3rd place prizes for each of the other age categories out to runners after the event (or ask someone from your club to pass it on to you!).
    • Once you have run the race, you will be given your goody bag, medal and bottle of water, and you can then make your way out of the finishing area and back to your vehicles for a well-earned rest! Unfortunately, unlike in previous years, we will not be able to hang around and chat to our running friends about a job well done! We are very sad about this, but we obviously understand that it is necessary under the current circumstances!
