• FOUNTAINS 10K & FUN RUN

    Sunday July 18th 2021

    Fun Run at 10.00am

    10k at 11.00am

  • COVID safety measures

Our main priority is to keep all runners, volunteers, and local residents safe during our event, so that a good time can be had by all!

Following the government announcement that the final stage for the easing of lockdown restrictions had been postponed until 19h July, we have had to make some changes to our plans to bring you the 2021 Fountains 10k event.

All Covid safety measures have been implemented in line with advice from Run Britain and UK Athletics

    Before the Race

We urge all runners to carefully consider the following points before attending the race:

    1. Currently it is not unknown what impact Covid-19 will have on the long term health of those who contracted the virus. Based on the best available evidence at this time it is strongly advised that those who were hospitalised due to Covid-19 should undergo a form of health screening by a medical professional prior to taking part in the event. This health screening should preferably be undertaken by a doctor with specialist training in sports medicine, or those who feel they are competent to make a decision about the participant’s fitness to compete and arrange any further investigations that may be required.
    2. Runners MUST NOT attend the event if they (or anyone they live with) have been unwell or suffering from any Covid-19 symptoms in the last 14-days. Please see current NHS guidance at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-Covid-19/ .
    3. The event has been carefully planned with appropriate medical provision to try to minimise the impact the event may have on local NHS services. As a runner attending the event, you can also help with this by ensuring that you have trained appropriately for the event, and by ensuring that you are fit enough and well enough to complete the race.

    COVID security measures

Our main priority is to keep all runners, volunteers, and local residents safe during our event, so that a good time can be had by all!

To do this, we will implement the following COVID-security measures:

    1. A staggered start protocol will be implemented, to maximise the space available to all runners at the start and throughout the course, thereby allowing social distancing to be maintained throughout the event.
    2. Race registration will be done in advance by posting race packs out to all runners before the event.
    3. There will be no prize giving ceremony this year, and runners will be encouraged to exit the finishing area and leave the venue at the earliest opportunity to avoid congestion and social mixing - prizes will be posted out to winners after the event.
    4. The pre-race safety briefing will be provided via email in advance, to minimise the amount of time runners are held within the race start area.
    5. There will be hand sanitisation points at regular intervals around the site.
    6. Masks must be worn within the start holding area before runners enter the competitive field, and inside any buildings such as the toilet facilities within the village hall.
    7. All volunteers will be provided with appropriate PPE for their role.
    8. There will be no changing facilities or bag drop, to reduce the need for people to congregate in indoor spaces - runners are asked to arrive "ready to run".
    9. There will be no water stop, to reduce the risk of viral transmission - runners are advised to carry their own supply of water if they think this will be needed whilst on the course.

    Code of Conduct for Runners

We will make sure we do our bit to keep everyone safe, but we need your help too! It is the individual responsibility of every runner to ensure that they follow the code of conduct expected by all runners. This states that all runners must:

    1. All runners must observe social distancing rules and regulations prior to entering the competitive field.
    2. Masks must be worn in the race holding area at the start, and can be removed once runners cross the start line and enter the competitive field.
    3. Masks must be worn inside any buildings, such as the toilet facilities within the village hall.
    4. Please be mindful of your personal hygiene practices, and avoid spitting and nasal clearance whilst on the course and at the venue.
    5. If you experience COVID-19 symptoms soon after the event, then please make this known through the government’s test and trace system.

What to expect on race day

    Start Protocol

We will be implementing a staggered start protocol for the race this year

You will receive a colour-coded race number through the post before the race. The colour of your number will dictate which wave you are scheduled to start in as below:

    • Red: Race start time 11am

PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE IN THE START AREA BEFORE 10.50am

    • Blue: Race start time 11.10am

PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE IN THE START AREA BEFORE 11am

    • Gold: Race start time 11.20am

PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE IN THE START AREA BEFORE 11.10am.

The START AREA is the community play park in the centre of the village (see map)

    Important notice:

    • If you have a predicted race time of 40-minutes or less, then please email hello@evensplits.co.uk for further instructions.

    • If you have a predicted race time of 75-minutes or more, then please email hello@evensplits.co.uk for further instructions.

What to expect on race day

We've had to make some small adjustments......

    • You can arrive in the car park area from 9.30am on race day, but we ask you not to make your way down in to the village until 10-minutes before your race start time to avoid having large numbers of people congregating within the confines of the village.
    • There will be no changing facilities or bag drop at the event this year, so runners are advised to arrive “ready to run”.
    • There will be portaloos within the car parking field for use before the race. There will be a limited number of toilets available at the race start only, so we encourage runners to use the facilities in the car park area where possible.
    • There will be a catering van in the car parking field, providing hot and cold drinks and snacks to runners and spectators either before or after the race (celebratory cake and take-away coffee for the way home anyone??).
    • Runners will be directed from the car parking area to the village via a one-way system, to avoid two-way pedestrian traffic along the course once the race has started (see map).
    • The car park is 1km from the race start area, and it will take you approximately 15-minutees to walk from the car park to the race start.
    • Masks must be worn in the race holding area (unless you are medically exempt), but can be removed once the race starts and you enter the competitive field. PLEASE ENSURE YOU BRING YOUR MASK WITH YOU TO THE RACE START AREA.
    • There will be no water stop on the course this year, so runners are advised to bring their own supply of drinking water if they feel they may need this whilst out on the course.
    • You will still receive a goody bag at the end of the race, full of some of Yorkshire’s finest produce, including a bottle of Harrogate spring water, a Voakes pork pie, a Yorkshire banana(?), a chocolate bar, a Yorkshire tea bag, and your medal!
    • Unfortunatley there will be no prize giving ceremony this year, so all prizes will be posted out to winners. Further information about the prizes on offer this year can be found on the race website (www.fountains10.co.uk)
    • There will be a “Medal recycling point” at the exit of the finishing field where unwanted medals can be returned for recycling (for those of you who already have a medal cabinet full of them!).

    Important Information

    Please note:

    • The cut off date for any transfers or refunds will be Monday 5th July.
    • Entry in to the race will close at 12pm on Friday 16th July 2021.
    • Race packs will be posted out to all runners on 7th July via Royal mail. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PROVIDED US WITH THE CORRECT ADDRESS WHEN YOU REGISTERED FOR THE RACE.
    • If you have not received your race number by Friday 16th July, then please email hello@fountains.co.uk to let us know.
    • The cut off date for contacting hello@evensplits.co.uk to notify them if you have a predicted time of less than 40-minutes, or more than 75 minutes will be Monday 5th July.
    • Please ensure you bring your face mask with you to the start area (unless medically exempt).
    • Please note that runners are not permitted to wear headphones (or similar devices) on the course for safety reasons.

    10. In an effort to reduce the environmental impact of the event, we ask that all runners take their plastic water bottles home with them to recycle in their home recycling.
    11. Please be advised that runners are not permitted to wear head phones (or similar devices) whilst on the course, according to the UKA Rules of Competition (2016).

  • FAQ

The answers to all of your Frequently Asked Questions

    (updated 01/07/21)

    Where is the race?

The race is held in and around the picturesque village of Grantley, near Ripon, in the heart of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty!

    The postcode is HG4 3PJ.

    Are spectators allowed?

Yes! But all spectators must adhere to social distancing rules and regulations, and are encouraged to “sign in” via the Test and Trace QR codes found on site, or by filling in their details at the “sign in” points in either the car park or at the school.

What catering facilities will there be on the day?

There will be an ice cream van near to the race start, and a catering van which will provide hot and cold drinks and snacks in the car parking field.

Don’t forget that your goody bag will also contain a bottle of Harrogate’s finest spring water, one of Yorkshire’s Finest Pork Pies, a Yorkshire Banana (?), and a chocolate bar. You will also get a Yorkshire tea bag that you can use to make a proper brew of Yorkshire’s golden nectar when you get home!

What happens if I don’t receive my race pack in time?

Please email us at hello@fountains10k.co.uk to let us know.

There will be a Registration point next to the race start, which will have a supply of extra race numbers/timing chips for anyone who has not received their number in time.

I have entered the race within a week of race day. Will I still get my race number sent out to me in the post?

If you entered the race after 1pm on 12th July you will have missed the final mailing of the race numbers. You will therefore have to collect your race number on the morning of the race. You can do this by making your way down to the race start area by 10.30am on the morning of the race where there will be a registration point where you will be given your race number.

What happens if I arrive late for my wave start time?

If you arrive late for the start of your wave, please do not worry. You will still be allowed to race as long as you arrive in the start area before the last wave has set off.

Unfortunately, we cannot allow anyone to start the race after the sweeper vehicle and last runner have already departed at 11.20am however.

Will I need to bring a face mask?

Yes. Unless you are medically exempt, face masks must be worn by all runners in the race holding area at the start, and can be removed once you cross the start line and enter the competitive field.

Will I need any money on race day?

There will be a catering van in the car park area, so some money to buy a take-away drink and cake/snack might be useful.

There will also be an ice cream van next to the race start area, so if you want to pick up an ice cream on your way back to your car, make sure you’ve slipped a couple of quid into your running shorts before you set off!

Are there changing facilities or a bag drop at the venue?

Unfortunatley we are unable to provide any changing facilities or bag drop this year due to COVID restrictions. Runners are therefore advised to arrive “ready to run”.

Will there be a water stop on the course?

Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, we are unable to provide a water stop on the course this year. Runners are advised to carry their own supply of water if they think they will need this whilst on the course.

Our marshals will also be provided with a small emergency supply of sealed bottled water to give to runners if necessary whilst they are on the course, so please let them know if you are running into difficulties due to the heat.

Is there a time limit on the race?

Because we have waited until the last person has finished before starting the prize giving ceremony in previous years, we have placed a 90-minute time limit on completing the course, and therefore respectfully request that walkers do not enter the event.

Is there a vegan alternative to the pork pie in the goody bag?

Yes!!! The wonderful people at Toppings Pies are supporting us to provide you with a vegan alternative to the traditional Pork pie in your race goody bags!! Be Prepared to be AMAZED when you taste their incredible vegan traditional sausage rolls! A real taste of Yorkshire's finest produce for you all to take home with you (or eat immediately!!).
